AWS Unified K8s<>Cloud Solution Release Notes

We are happy to announce that the AWS Unified CUE solution is GA. Bringing together cloud and Kubernetes (K8s) cost and usage insights under a single, unified interface. This below outlines the latest enhancements, migration notes, and usage instructions.

1. Umbrella K8s Storage Cost Allocation Enhancement

  • Enhanced Storage Cost Calculation:
    • Storage costs are now allocated more accurately across K8s workloads.
    • The calculation logic has been improved to handle multi-dimensional storage usage (namespace, pod, PVC).
  • Prometheus Version Update:
    • The latest Prometheus version has been incorporated to ensure accurate metric collection and reporting.
  • Expected Impact:
    • Users will see more precise cost distribution across K8s clusters, namespaces, and workloads.
  • Detailed description.

2. Unified CUS/Assets/Business Mapping Revisions

The Unified solution now provides a consolidated view for both cloud and K8s. Key enhancements include the following unified pages:

  • Cost & Usage Explorer
    1. Log in to Umbrella using the provided URL.
    2. Navigate to your AWS account and open CUE.
    3. Access groupings, filters, and drill-downs for both cloud and K8s data.
  • Assets: Unified asset view combining cloud and K8s resources.
  • Business Mapping: Unified business mapping leveraging filters and data for cloud and K8s.

3. Migration Notes

  • Migrated data is available starting in November onward.
  • K8s dashboards require panel updates and verification of the ‘K8s only’ toggle in CUE.
  • K8s Business Mapping must be recreated to leverage the new unified K8s-Cloud structure.
📘
  • Hourly granularity for K8s usage will be available in the enterprise version.
  • After selecting usage metrics, only a subset of cost filters is available; a note in the UI provides clarification.
