ECS Fargate
ECS Fargate Rightsizing
Over-provisioning Amazon ECS task CPU and memory incurs unnecessary costs, while under-provisioning them can lead to poor application performance. Umbrella delivers actionable recommendations so you can optimize task CPU and memory for your Amazon ECS services running on Fargate. Umbrella uses 'Compute Optimizer' recommendations for container-level CPU and memory configurations as necessary when downsizing tasks to ensure compatibility between tasks and associated container configurations.
This recommendation identifies if the ECS Fargate instances have cheaper, suitable alternatives considering the instance's current utilization.
Prerequisite
- AWS Compute Optimizer service opted in.
- The services should have at least 24 hours of CloudWatch and Amazon ECS utilization metrics in the past 14 days.
- No step scaling policy is attached.
- No target scaling policy is attached to CPU and memory. If a target scaling policy is attached to the CPU, Compute Optimizer will provide recommendations to memory; if a target scaling policy is attached to memory, Compute Optimizer will provide recommendations to the CPU.
- The service run status is SteadyState or MoreWork. For more details: ECS Fargate requirements.
- Activate 'Receive Amazon EC2 resource recommendations' in the Cost Explorer preferences page. There should be at least 14 days of service data.
